Spanish 301 Composition and Oral Practice
Description: Continues to build proficiency as defined by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Content-based instruction develops communicative language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through readings and discussions of authentic Hispanic cultural and literary texts. For students with two or more years of Spanish or an intermediate level of Spanish language proficiency. (Offered fall semester.)
This class focused on sharpening Spanish speaking, writing, and reading skills. Through articles and short stories, I learned to analyze in Spanish as well as improve my vocabulary. Through these short stories, I learned to speak about themes and write critical essays on important texts. We went in depth of Spanish grammar and learned how to formulate complex sentences as well as college styled essays. Through both American culture and Spanish speaking culture films, we learned how to discuss ideas as well as critically think in Spanish. The hardest part for me was learning the grammar terminology. At the time, I just became an ASAP (Academic Skills Achievement Program) Spanish tutor and I was seeing new grammar terminology at both ends. It took me a while to learn and understand it but I feel like I still need to study a bit more. I also need to practice the rules for accent marks. Certain words have accents but I still have a difficult time remembering when I need to use the accent mark. Practice makes perfect so I just need to keep on writing and reading and I am sure that I will master it.
